Joseph Daniel Jones, affectionately known to us all as Joey, was welcomed into to this world on Monday, December 27. A gift from God, that his loving parents, Peggy and Steve Jones, embraced wholeheartedly. He was born the younger brother of Steve, Jr., or Stevie, and one of the many cherished grandchildren, of matriarch Bonnie Jones. Joey was not just a son and brother; from the very beginning, Joey filled the lives of those around him with warmth and laughter.
As young children, Joey and his brother Steve JR were inseparable. Despite their age difference, they shared a bond that was unbreakable, always playing together and supporting one another through life’s ups and downs. Joey looked up to Steve, cherishing those moments that shaped his childhood. Later, during his early teen years, Joey found another loyal companion in a stray puppy—a Pekingese-Dachshund mix he named Tipper. What he lacked in size he sure made up for in heart!
In 1992, he attended First Christian Assembly Academy high school where he formed lifelong friendships with Amanda, Michael, and many others who became like family. Over the years, he welcomed friends like Bug, Kyle, Andy, Billy, Wes, and countless more, many of whom he met in the Cooper Young neighborhood.
A true lover of music, Joey found joy in everything from classic rock legends like Ozzy Osbourne to the beats of hip-hop. He channeled his passion through drumming, even forming a band with his friends, Michael and Kyle. Music wasn’t just a hobby for Joey; it was a way for him to express his vibrant spirit and connect with those around him.
Joseph was a hard worker, a trait that defined him from a young age. At just 16, he landed his first job at McDonald’s, juggling his responsibilities with school. He worked day and night, all with a singular goal in mind—to save enough to buy his very first car. In 1998, Joey embarked on his career in the transportation business at Priority Courier. After a stint at Priority, he went on to work with Blue Sky Courier, dedicating 18 years to the transportation industry. Eventually, Joey transitioned to shipping and receiving management at Home Depot.
Joey and his former wife, Kim begin dating in 1997, and were married in 2001. They then adopted a dog who would become another important companion in his life: “Ozzy Osborne the Master of Barkness.” Joey’s bond with Ozzy was a testament to his nurturing heart and his love for all living beings.
In November 2003, Joey welcomed his first daughter, Annabelle Autumn Jones. Belle was the apple of his eye. With her big eyes and sweet smile, she had him wrapped around her little finger. Together, they created countless cherished memories—from camping at Spring River to a magical trip to Disney. Even the simple moments, like dropping her off at school in the mornings, were filled with love and joy.
On August 8, 2012, Joey welcomed his second beautiful and spunky daughter, Phoebe Olivia Jones. A firecracker since the day she was born, she brought so much love and fun into his life. Today, Annabelle is a talented artist in her junior year of college, and Phoebe is an honors student in middle school. Joey loved his daughters immensely and was incredibly proud of them. They are truly two of his greatest accomplishments, and his spirt will live on through them.
In the last several years, the journey of life took Joey to spending more time and living with his parents Peggy and Steve. As a testament as his caring and kind soul, he was not just a loving son but a helpful care giver around the house, and to the neighbors around them. During this time, he reconnected with his childhood friend George, who felt like a brother to him. They enjoyed countless hours together at home, even sharing evening Bible studies. Peggy and Steve are deeply grateful for the precious time they had with Joey, creating even more cherished memories that they will carry in their hearts forever.
As we remember Joey today, let us celebrate the memories we've shared with him—his laughter, his love for life, and the moments that brought us all together.
