Born on September 26, 1957, in Floyd, NY, Jay was the cherished son of Kenneth and LeMoyne (Lee) Stressel. After graduating from high school, Jay honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1981. He later relocated to Tennessee and earned a degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Memphis. For the past 29 years, Jay dedicated his professional life to MLGW as a structural engineer in the Facilities Department.
Jay is lovingly remembered by his wife, Connie (Johnston); son, Jarod (Joey Flanigan); daughter, Britney; sister, Sandy (Bill); nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. To his three grandsons, Jordan, Emerson, and Bennett, he was affectionately known as "Papa Jay." Jay was preceded in death by his first wife, Jana, his father Ken and mother Lee.
A devoted member of Hope Church, Jay found joy in refining his golf skills at Windyke Country Club. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he loved cycling through Shelby Farms alongside Connie and cherished their camping adventures in their RV. Above all, Jay's greatest joy was being a supportive husband, father, and grandfather.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held in the South Hall of Hope Church, 8500 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, Tennessee, 38018 on Friday, May 3 beginning at noon with family and friends gathering together one hour prior.
