James W. Underwood, 67, of Memphis, Tennessee died May 20, 2010. Mr. Underwood retired from FedEx after 25 years as a Senior Account Executive and had previously worked for the F.B.I. and 3M Company. He graduated from Central High School in 1960 and attended Memphis State University. He was awarded the FedEx President’s Club honor eight times. Mr. Underwood was a longtime member of the FedEx St. Jude Golf Tournament Committee of 100, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for St. Jude. Jim was a passionate man with a big personality and always had a smile. He loved his family more than words can say. He was preceded in death by his father George W. Underwood. Jim is survived by his daughter Leslie Rayfield (John) of College Grove, TN; mother Maxine Campbell Underwood of Memphis; brother David Underwood (JoAnn) of Memphis; and grandchildren James W. Rayfield, Nathaniel T. Rayfield and Caroline P. Rayfield. Visitation will be Sunday, May 23 from 3PM – 6PM and funeral services will be Monday, May 24 beginning at 2PM both at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. Burial will follow in Edmondson Cemetery in Southaven, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
