James Hillman Smith

Dr. James H. Smith, 95, of Bartlett, TN, went home to be with the Lord on October 21, 2016. He served as a Southern Baptist Minister for 75 years, pastoring seven churches across the Midwest. Also, he was Executive Director of the Illinois Baptist State Association for 13 years and President of the Brotherhood Commission, SBC, in Memphis, TN for 12 years. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Nona, and son, David Smith. He is survived by his children, John (Beverly) Smith of Lake St. Louis, MO, Joy (Bud) Wilson of Bartlett, TN, and Mark (Anne) Smith of Ft. Worth, TX; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM and the funeral will be on Monday, October 24 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be at Leawood Baptist Church, 3638 Macon Rd., Memphis, TN, followed by internment at Memphis Memory Gardens.
