Helen Gorst Peterson, 87, passed away February 15, 2021 at her home in Cordova, Tennessee. Mrs. Peterson was born in Brooklyn, New York to Arthur and Hazel Gorst in 1933. She was a professional ballerina and danced with the American Ballet Theater in New York. After moving to Memphis, she continued to be active in dance and was co-owner of Mid-South Academy of Performing Arts. Mrs. Peterson led an active life enjoying travel and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church in Cherokee Village, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Peterson; her parents and three brothers, Frank Gorst, Harry Gorst and Howard Gorst.
She is survived by sons, Gary Peterson (Cathy), Eric Peterson (Janet), and Lyle Peterson (Andra); grandchildren, Brian Peterson (Sarah), Eric Peterson (Candice), Jessica Bittenbender (Eric) and Jessica Golday (Clay) and four great-grandchildren, Belle, Masen, Miles, and Dupree.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peterson will be held Friday February 26, 2021 at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Southwoods.
