Jerry was born on April 11, 1938 in Corinth, Mississippi to the late William Lunsford & Mary Katherine Brooks Foust. The family moved to Memphis when he was six years old. In Memphis he graduated from Messick High School then continued his education at Mississippi Delta College, the University of Tennessee and the Stanford University School of Business. Jerry served in the Tennessee Air National Guard from 1954 - 1963 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Foust was appointed by Mayor Wyeth Chandler and ratified by City Council to the Cook Convention Center Commission ad was a past Chairman from 1978 - 1984. During his working career he was the former Senior Vice President, Flooring Division for William R. Moore, Inc. and retired General Manager of Retail Stores, Seabrook Decorating Centers.
Jerry was an avid and knowledgeable Ole Miss Rebel sports fan. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and driving his 1965 red Austin-Healy Sprite, loving referred to as his "little red car".
Along with his parents Jerry was also preceded in death by his older brother Billy Brooks Foust who died in 1990 and his younger brother Danny Gordon Foust who died in 1971; and his son Jerry Mitchell Foust who died August 25th of this year.
Mr. Foust is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Mitchell whom he married on June 2, 1961; his son Vernon "Keith" (Julie Lynn Bubin) Foust of Kennesaw, Georgia; daughter in law Kathleen Ann Brosius Foust of Memphis, Tennessee; and his grandchildren Daniel Mitchell Foust, Kathryn Nichole Foust, Connor James Foust and Chandler Brooks Foust; and his great-grandson James Fisher Plate.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 10 from eleven o'clock in the morning until noon.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry's family asks memorials in his name be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
