Fred "Sonny" J. Hauser Jr., age 87, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023. He was born June 8, 1935, in Memphis, to Frederick James Hauser, Sr. and Catherine Ann Morehead Hauser. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1953. Shortly after high school, he met the love of his life, Genell, and they married on January 5, 1957. After briefly working in his family's plumbing business, Fred began his career with Conley Frog & Switch and soon became their Secretary Treasurer. He retired after 35 years.
Fred was a man of few words, but always was there for family and friends, when they needed him. Along with spending time with family, he loved Tiger Basketball (they were season ticket holders for 35 years), visiting Tunica, golfing, and St. Louis Cardinal baseball. In his younger days, Fred umpired and refereed baseball and basketball in his spare time, and during high school, Fred played pick up football with Elvis, in Guthrie Park.
The family is grateful to the caregivers at HarborChase of Germantown for their excellent care they showed Fred. Additionally, in the last few years, the family is appreciative for all those family and friends that came to see Genell and Fred. However, this is not goodbye. Fred was an adamant believer in his Christian faith and knows that he will see everyone again.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Genell; his parents; and his two sisters, Dorothy and Marylou. He is survived by his daughter, Ginger Hauser; and his son, Joe Hauser (Sara Hall). He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Richard, Andrew, and Alice Cate Hauser. If you knew Pops, you certainly know how much he absolutely adored his grandchildren. Fred also leaves many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Saturday, April 29 beginning at 9:00 AM with funeral services at 10:00 AM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a charitable contribution to a charity or house of worship of your choice.
