Fred Holmes Downing

Fred Holmes Downing, 95, of Memphis, TN passed away on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Helen Downing, his daughter, Sara “Penny” Prince and a brother, Richard Downing. Mr. Downing is survived by his daughter, Susan Holley and her husband Paul, both of Florence, AL, son-in-law Buddy Prince, grandchildren, Kelly Metaxas and her husband Steve, Kimberly Hallum and her husband Hal, Lisa Clayton and her husband Ryan and Mark Holley and his wife Kate, and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Downing was an active member of Union Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years. He retired after 43 years working as an engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, January 25th from 12:30pm to 2pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Memphis TN 38119. The funeral will begin at 2pm also at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
