Frances Omega Durham Wright passed away October 7, 2022 at 100 years old. She was born in Panola County, MS on November 11,1921 to parents George and Charity (Lena) Russell. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Jim Wright and Bennie Marshall Durham; her daughter, Wilma Durham Krag, and ten siblings.
She was the baby of eleven children and given the name Omega Russell. Omega attended Black Jack School near Sardis MS. When she moved to Memphis, TN in 1938, she changed her name to Frances Omega Russell. Frances met and married Bennie Marshall Durham in 1939 and had three children, Wilma Earlene, Marsha Ann, and Bennie Jr. (Buddy). After the sudden death of Bennie in 1955, Frances was the sole support of their three children. In addition to working full time at Nat Buring Packing Co., she worked a second job for the Memphis Chicks Baseball Team. Frances was always the rock of our family. She set high morals and instilled strong work ethics for her children. Frances taught Sunday School, was a Red Cross volunteer and an Eastern Star. When her children finished school, Frances married Jim Wright (BeBo). They had 30 wonderful years together. Frances moved back to Collierville, TN in 2000 and joined Germantown Baptist Church where she was in the Hallelujah Chorus. Mother always had a smile, "I love you" and a kiss for everyone she met.
Frances is survived by her two children, Marsha Durham Fletcher and Bennie Durham Jr. (Buddy), six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great- great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 12 noon until 1 PM with services to follow at Family Funeral Care 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122. The committal service will be held at Forest Hill Midtown, 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38106.
