Edwin Kelly Myrick, Jr., 88, of Memphis passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his residence. He was born October 20, 1926 in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Edwin and Annie Lewis Myrick. He was a graduate of Mississippi State and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
Edwin Myrick lived a life of exemplary values – integrity, pride in his heritage, and patriotism for his country. He was a true Southern gentleman. Edwin was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. In 1959, he moved his family to Memphis and began a career as a stock broker which lasted over 40 years. Favorite pastimes included tennis and boating. Edwin’s long involvement with Scouting included fundraising for the Chickasaw Council and serving as leader of Troop 75. Twenty-six years ago, he was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Memphis East and continued to be involved. A deacon of First Baptist Church, he also served as chair of the Endowment Board, and in several other capacities. At the age of 70, he learned to play the trombone and served as treasurer of the International Trombone Association.
Edwin was married to Margie Seymour for 63 years until her death. Mr. Myrick is survived by their children Gay Myrick Cole (David) of Birmingham, AL, Edith Myrick Lester (Tom) of Chattanooga, TN, and E. Kelly Myrick III (Jenny) of Roswell, GA; grandchildren Carson Cole, Wesley Cole, Margaret Lester, Catie Lester, Edwin Myrick IV, and Ginger Myrick.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 27, from 4 to 6 pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, and again Sunday, June 28, at 12:30 until service time at 1:30 at First Baptist Church, 200 E. Parkway North, Memphis, TN. The interment will follow at Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery, 5485 Hacks Cross Road, Memphis, TN. Online condolences may be made at www.MemphisFuneralHome.net.
