Age 87, died January 15 at her home in Kirby Pines. She was born October 29, 1927 in Vance, MS to Everett R. Ramsey and Edna Pearl Keel Ramsey. She moved to Memphis as a teenager immediately after she graduated from high school. Edna married James E. (Ed) Wright on April 4, 1951. Together they moved to Helena, AR on January 1, 1962 when they became co-owners and managers of two NAPA Motor Parts, Inc., stores located in Helena and West Helena. After they both retired from the Helena stores they relocated back to Memphis in June 2008. They returned to live at Kirby Pines Retirement Community where they both became active and vibrant members of the community. She was a member of Helena First Baptist Church where she served actively for Forty-five years in numerous capacities. She was a “Life-Member” of NAJA (National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc.) and also a charter member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Arkansas. She was always an active and supportive member of her local community and supported numerous charities wherever she lived.
Edna is preceded by her parents, husband, two sisters (Annette Dunn & Erma L. Hawkins) and one brother (Randolph Ramsey). She is survived by two brothers (Thomas D. Ramsey of Melrose, FL & Billy F. Ramsey of Birmingham, AL)
Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home , 5599 Poplar Ave. on Sunday, January 18, from 2:00 – 4:00. Funeral services will be at Memphis Funeral Home on Monday, January 19 at 10:00. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh-Lagrange, Memphis, TN.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation in the name of Edna Wright can be sent to Memphis Union Mission 600 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38105, and would be appreciated.
