Dudley Bruce Johnson, 87, of Collierville, TN, a loving and devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior December 8, 2024. He was born to Sidney and Daisy Vandevander Johnson of Booneville, MS on June 22, 1937. Dudley is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Glenda Childers Johnson and his wonderful son Jay Childers Johnson and equally wonderful daughter-in-law, Teresa. We were blessed with three special grandchildren: Elias Artem Johnson, Benjamin Timur Johnson and Matthew Iain Johnson. He leaves behind his sister, Ramelle Johnson Sewell (Ray deceased) of Wills Point, TX and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Dudley was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Darrell Johnson (Betty deceased), Jerry Johnson (Carolyn) and Jack Johnson (Deanna). Dudley served in the Army in Italy during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He served his God and his country with honor. After serving his country he attended the University of Arkansas and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Mechanical Engineering degree and was an honorary member of Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi and belonged to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Dudley worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX in secure communications and could not reveal what he worked on until the Gulf War. After 12 years he came to Germantown, TN and was a partner with brothers Jack and Jerry Johnson on numerous developments in the Germantown and Collierville area including several self storage facilities, Beaver Creek and Steeplegate Subdivisions. Dudley was a successful home builder owning Johnson and Johnson Builders, Inc. He was thrilled when his son Jay joined the company. Dudley's homes were custom designed and his returning clients said "they wanted another Dudley Johnson home." He built and enjoyed our lake house on Beaver Creek, Pickwick. Dudley loved boating, fishing, hunting and photographing nature.
Dudley was a faithful member of Germantown Baptist Church and participated in numerous church projects including helping build a church building for Brinkley Heights in Memphis, TN. He had a big heart filled with love for children. He and Glenda were involved in Little People's Church, South MacArthur Church of Christ in Irving, TX. Dudley had a great sense of humor and always had a story to tell, especially his "chicken story". He cared for people and was kind to everyone. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Dudley will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119, with funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM with Dr. Ken Story officiating. The committal service will be at Memorial Park South Woods, 5485 Hacks Cross Rd, Memphis, TN 38125. A reception will be held at Germantown Baptist Church 9450 Poplar Ave Germantown, TN 38139. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
