DONNA DAVIS KATZ, 81, retired school teacher died July 9, 2012 at German town Plantation. She was a member of Temple Israel and retired principal of it’s Religious School Primary Department. She was one of the first in the nation to earn The National Teacher’s Certificate from the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. She taught Pre-School for many years at the Jewish Community Center. She served on the Boards of Directors of the Jewish Community Center - The Memphis Little Theater (forerunner of Theater Memphis), where she performed on stage in a number of productions such as “Fiddler On The Roof”. She was Past President of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO from which she graduated with a BS in Education. She also served on The Board of Directors and was President of the Memphis Chapter of Parents Without Partners. She was an avid needlepointer working in her retirement years for Amy’s Golden Strand Needlework Shop. She was a dedicated antique collector - especially for antique scissors having amassed a very significant collection of over 700 pairs and about which an article appeared in the Commercial Appeal in 1977. In her 70’s, she enjoyed working weekends with A-1 Estate Sales. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Katz Southern and Robert Neil Southern, Jr. and her son, Keith Donald Katz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Dorothy Davis and her grandparents, Artie and Blanch Brown and Joe and Johanna Davis. Graveside services will be held at Temple Israel Cemetery on Thursday, July 12 at 9 a.m. The family requests any donations be made to the Hamilton Center for Vision Research, U.T.
