Dona Jean Butcher was born to Frank and Betty Ramsey on March 23, 1949, in South Charleston, West Virginia, and passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2020 in Germantown, Tennessee, at age 71. She met her future husband, Henry, in high school and they were married on March 8, 1968. She received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from West Virginia University and her Master of Education Degree from Union University. She taught grades 2-8 in addition to college classes. She had a love for children and many former students speak of the love and attention she provided. She was named Distinguished Teacher in Tennessee in 1998, the year of her retirement. She loved the Lord, her family, her many friends, and all aspects of life. Dona truly never met a stranger and her smile brightened the day of all she met. She loved to travel, golf, exercise, shop, and read. She loved getting together with family and friends and always tended to the small details that made people feel special. She is survived by her husband, Henry, her son Rusty Butcher and his wife Christy Butcher of Germantown, TN, her daughter Tracy Behrsing and her husband Holger Behrsing of Frederick, MD, and five grandchildren: Madison and Campbell Butcher; Chase Taras and Stefan and Kirsten Behrsing; as well as her sister, Anna Newcomb, and her brother, Jeff Ramsey. Dona was a woman of love, grace, kindness, and peace - someone everyone wanted to be around. A celebration of life will be held at the home of Rusty and Christy Butcher on September 5. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent in Dona’s memory to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at https://imaginationlibrary.com/ or a charity of your choice.
