DANIEL JOSEPH SHEA, 66, died October 29, 2010 surrounded by his family. Dan Shea believed in miracles and demonstrated it to the very end even throughout his ten year courageous battle with cancer. Visitation: Church of the Holy Spirit 5-8 p.m. Sunday, October 31, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral: Church of the Holy Spirit 10 a.m. Monday, November 1. Daniel Joseph Shea is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marcella Shea, and daughter Theresa Ann Shea. Survived by his wife, of 43 years, Mary Ann; daughters, Kelly (Dan) Wilson, of Memphis, Kimberly (Mark) Dotson, of Tampa, Teresa (Mike) Westphall of Memphis and Patricia Wilson of Houston; grandchildren, Katelyn, Megan, Emily and Thomas Wilson, Jordan and Tyler Westphall, Zachary, Nicholas, Katie and Abbie Wilson; sisters, Linda VanderPol of Toledo, Kathy (Bob) Pettinato of Chicago; sister-in-law Kathy (Wally) Carpeaux of , Dallas; nine nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews. Dan Shea was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He is a graduate of the Universities of Notre Dame and Kentucky. Dan and Mary Ann married in 1967 and started their family of which he was so proud. He was the patriarch of a great family and shared his love, his faith, and his treasures with all of them. He was devoted to his wife, Mary Ann, and the love they shared was inspirational. Dan moved his family to Memphis, TN in 1978 while working for Hunter Fan. He later worked for Christian Brothers University, and then founded his own company, Property Tax Management. Dan loved to travel with his family and friends. He traveled to 49 of the 50 states and almost a dozen foreign countries during his lifetime. Recent trips included his dream of visiting the Vatican and having an audience with the Pope and a grand fishing trip to Alaska. Dan was a kind and generous man to his family and to all. He knew no strangers. Throughout his life, he helped others in need especially those most in need, or those who could not help themselves. Devoted to his church, he was an active communicant at the Church of the Holy Spirit, where he sat on the board of finance, was past-president of the Men’s Club, a lector, an usher, and an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. He created and or participated in several ministries some of which included: coaching the young people, working with the unemployed, meeting and praying with the Monday morning group, and so much more. He made Cursillo in 1983 and encouraged several generations to as well. Dan was awarded the Spiritus Sanctus Award in 2005 in recognition of his service to the church. Dan was also very active in the community. He was past-president and board member of the Serra Club in Memphis and past-president and board member of Birthright of Memphis, where he was awarded the “Friends for Life Award” and the “Heart and Soul Award” which was created in his honor. He was also an active member of Rotary International. He will always be loved and greatly missed by all who knew him.
