Dale Lynn Anderson, age 69, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023. He was born February 25, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Ruth and James Anderson. He left high school, at the age of 18, to join the U.S. Navy. Dale served as a photojournalist until his retirement in 1992. After his service, he worked as the newspaper editor and publisher of community newspapers in Central Valley, California and also as the editor for the base newspaper at Naval Air Station Lemoore. He later attended culinary school and worked briefly as a chef. In 1999, Dale moved to Millington, Tennessee and worked for the Navy Recruitment Command in Millington. He also was a freelance photographer for the Commercial Appeal. During these years in the Memphis area, Dale received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Memphis, where he later served as an adjunct professor of Sociology.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry and Lief. Dale is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sheri Lipman; children, Starlet Anderson, Shawn Smith (Mike), Laura Anderson (Wayne Carey), David Anderson, Aaron Anderson (Leslie), Sarah Powers (Andrew), and Lisa Anderson (Michael Eaves); and countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves his dogs, who he loved very much.
Dale was passionate about respecting all people. He enjoyed helping people tell their stories as well as capturing life through the camera lens.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, December 17 at 3:00 PM, at Beth Sholom Synagogue, 6675 Humphreys Boulevard, Memphis, TN 38120. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Facing History and Ourselves, Playhouse on the Square, Tennessee Shakespeare Company, or a charity of the donor's choice.
