Crystal was born on October 6, 1964, in Tupelo, MS to her loving parents, James Olen “Jim” Cook
and Martha Jean Ritter Cook. Crystal was a 1982 graduate of Tupelo High School. Immediately after high school, Crystal followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued a career in business and accounting. She worked for numerous companies in her hometown as an accounts payable/receivable clerk and then brought her skills with her when she moved to Memphis. Crystal married Joseph P. Shaunessy on October 27, 1990. They were blessed with one son, James Patrick Shaunessy.
In recent years, Crystal enjoyed being a stay-at-home wife and mom. Crystal was a member of
Fountain of Truth Pentecostal Church. Crystal was a collector of hats, friends and laughter. A favorite hobby was posting a “hat of the day” photo on Sundays on her way to church. Her gift of laughter will be missed greatly by her friends and family.
Crystal was preceded in death by her grandparents, Olen and Gertrude Cook and Archie and Merle Ritter and her inlaws, Walter P. Shaunessy and Dena B. Shaunessy.
Survivors that mourn her passing include her husband of 31 years, Joseph P. Shaunessy and their son, James Patrick Shaunessy of Memphis, TN. Her parents, James and Martha Cook of Olive Branch, MS. Two sisters, Camille Cook Hopper (Gaylon) and Carmen Cook Usery (Michael) one niece, Emery Hopper and two nephews, John David and Nathan Usery all of Olive Branch, MS. Her brothers-in-law, Marty Shaunessy (Karen) of Poway, CA, Michael Shaunessy (Linda) of Austin, TX, Dan Shaunessy (Tina) of Corpus Christi, TX, Pat Shaunessy (Nancy) of Coppell, TX and her sisters-in-law Michele McCuistion (Jerry) of Austin, TX and Anne Shaunessy (Dan O’Grady) of Midland, TX and a host of Shaunessy
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 10:00 to 12:30 at GraceLife Pentecostal Church in Memphis, TN. A memorial service will follow the visitation on February 9, 2022, from 12:30 to 2:00 at GraceLife Pentecostal Church located at 4820 S. Germantown Road, Memphis, TN with Fountain of Truth pastor, Rev. Mark Johnson and GraceLife Pentecostal Church pastor, Rev. Bill Parkey officiating. Burial will be at West TN Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene in Memphis, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Crystal’s honor to the National Fibromyalgia Association.
