Claudia S. Baggett

Claudia S. Nanney Baggett, 84, passed away August 12, 2014 at her home. She leaves two daughters, Marylynn Gabbard (Clint) and Patricia Brown (Danny); one son, Charles Nanny Jr.; three step children, Becky Souder, Charles Baggett, and Bill Baggett; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. Mrs. Baggett was preceded in death by her husband, B.S. Baggett; birth parents, David and Estelle Chatham Bates, adoptive parents, LeRoy and Ruby Horne Sawyer; brother, Gordon Bates; and her sister, Eunice Reed. Claudia was a Shelby County school teacher for over 30 years. She loved experiencing life to its fullest whether through traveling, nature’s beauty, new adventures, or learning new things. She delighted in her relationships with her children and grandchildren, family, friends, fellow teachers and students. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to her caregivers for the excellent care they gave her. Visitation will be Saturday, August 16 beginning at 1 pm till the service starts at 2 pm, all at Family Funeral Care on Summer Ave. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh LaGrange Rd. The family asks that in lieu of flowers all memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
