Rev. Charles Robert Heinz, 70, entered the presence of the Lord on April 8, 2011. Visitation will be on Monday, April 11 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Poplar Avenue. Funeral services for Rev. Heinz will be on Tuesday, April 12 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Highpoint Church at 6000 Briarcrest Avenue, Memphis, TN 38120. Burial will follow in Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Germantown Road (formerly Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery). Recently retired from Redeemer Evangelical Church after seven years as Co-Pastor and Minister of Worship, he had previously served for 32 years at Central Church. Throughout his history in the music ministry, he directed and produced major pageants as well as leading and teaching at choir workshops throughout the country. Rev. Heinz also served on many publishing boards in the church music industry. In 2000 he was presented with The Ray DeVries Church Music Ministry Award. In 1959 he became the second-ever artist to sign and record at Stax Records. Rev. Heinz was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Fred Heinz, Sr. Survivors include his wife Freda Heinz; four children, Kelly Heinz of Panama City, Florida, Todd Heinz of Eads, Chris Heinz of Memphis, and Charis Floyd of Olive Branch; his mother, Gladys Heinz of Memphis; seven siblings, Mildred Fingar of Charleston, SC, Fred Heinz, Jr. of Memphis, Jean Smith of Chesterfield, MO, Jim Heinz of Cordova, Ray Heinz of Collierville, David Heinz of Memphis and Mary Lockley of Arlington; and 12 grandchildren.
