Charles John Campbell was born August 2, 1938 to Charles B. And Reo Campbell in Brownwood, Texas. He graduated in 1956 from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas. He went on to get his BA and masters degrees from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and received his PhD from the University of Texas in Austin. Charles passed away January 3, 2019 in Germantown, Tennessee.
Charles is survived by daughter Sarah Carlson (Sean), sons Clay Campbell (Becky) and Chris Campbell, sister Molly Stevens (Earl), nephew Cole Stevens (Tiffani), brother David Campbell (Nancy), nephew Clark Lipscomb (Mary) and grandchildren Caroline, Colt, Campbell, Tate, Sawyer, Madelyn, Kylie and Stella. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Sherry Campbell. Charles was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
After receiving his PhD, Charles and family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he was a professor at the University of Memphis for 30 plus years. As a Management Information Systems professor, he expanded and used his skills as a consultant at Federal Express then applied his experience there to enrich the understanding undergraduate and graduate students.
Born a Texan and a graduate of the University of Texas, Charles was a lifelong fan of both the University of Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys football teams, a dedicated teacher and a valued colleague. With all of his academic accomplishments, he found his greatest joy in sharing in the lives of his family and grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 8th from 11:30 to 1:30 at Trinity Baptist Church, 8899 Trinity Rd., Cordova, TN 38018. Funeral services immediately following visitation.
