Casey Lyon, age 32, of Munford, Tennessee, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His first name is Robert, but to everyone that knew him, he was and always will be Casey.
Casey had circumstances beyond most anyone’s comprehension. In his time with us, he received two heart transplants and endured the effects of Muscular Dystrophy. Throughout his life, anyone that encountered him could attest that Casey was always a caring and loving person. Running through old school certificates, Casey was recognized for having a ‘Positive Attitude’ and ‘Christian Citizenship’. Nothing could be truer for his entire life. Casey loved and cared for others' feelings even during some of his toughest struggles. Before he was aware of his Muscular Dystrophy and heart issues, Casey worked for over 3 years getting his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. That dedication and work is tough for anyone, but he had to go above and beyond normal physical and mental boundaries to reach this milestone. Casey had a drive we all should take note of for applications in our life efforts. Naturally, his conditions brought times that lowered his spirits, but he always did what it took to push past obstacles.
His first heart transplant was at 13 years of age. Through miracles that God provided, Casey was provided the gift of continuing his life. Muscular Dystrophy was diagnosed the next year. An acute rejection of the transplanted heart happened two years after the new heart was put into service. Casey was revived and was blessed to receive a second transplant shortly after his nineteenth birthday. Jesus provided the gift of life to him for over nineteen years after the first transplant. This time was used to show what a genuinely nice and caring man Casey grew to become and to bless us all.
Casey had a passion for animals, especially his beloved dogs. Bo was his special wolf-hybrid companion that cared for Casey beyond words. Daisy Mae, Duke, Domino, and Casper were in his loving list of four-legged canine friends. Casey was a great “doggy dad”.
Many knew Casey through interactions online. His list of friends spanned the globe. All that had the honor to know him in person could attest to his wonderful spirit that was recognized by so many around the world.
His passing is especially felt by his mother, father, siblings, grandparents, and blended family members. His profession of Jesus as his Lord and Savior place him in heaven where heart issues and muscular diseases do not exist. Casey will be there to welcome all who come after him into the Kingdom of God.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, October 25 beginning at noon until 1:30 p.m., at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave., Memphis, Tennessee 38119. A Graveside service will follow at approximately 3:00 p.m. in Munford Cemetery, 705 U.S. 51 South, Covington, Tennessee 38019.
