Bobby Joe Johnson 79 passed away February 26, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. He attended Humes High School where he graduated in 1952, he was the best all around boy of his class; was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of Trafalgar Village Baptist Church, and retired from Shelby County Code Enforcement as manager and chief electrical inspector.
He was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Jimmie Griffin Johnson, by two half- sisters, Modelle Morris and Ruth O’Haver.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jean Smith Johnson; by daughters Laurie (Andy) Van Cleve, Julie (Steve) Barnett, Lisa Stromberg and Karen Johnson; grandchildren Whitney (Rory) Elliott, Jonathan Van Cleve, Philip Van Cleve, Bobby Van Cleve, Anne Marie Van Cleve, Jasper Andoy, Lauren Barnett and Holden Stromberg; and one brother Floyd Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Friday February 28, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday March 1 at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Trafalgar Village Baptist Church.
