Bobby Joe Davis was born on October 8, 1948, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Jerry Lavert Davis and Frances Mae Davis. After an extensive surgery followed by a 38 day stay in Baptist Hospital East CVICU, Bobby departed this earth and entered his heavenly home, while he was surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Clark Davis (17), his parents, and a sister, Deborah Davis Lambert.
Bobby attended Bolivar Central High School where he in graduated in 1967. Later, he went on to attend Memphis State University. While in high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, and he was also involved in his church, Bolivar United Methodist Church.
Bobby married Twana Jo Hammock on October 3, 1970, and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Bobby and Twana have 2 children, Jennifer Davis Howard and Matthew Clark Davis. Matthew “Matt” went home to heaven in 1996 and was awaiting Bobby when he entered his heavenly home. Jennifer is married to Joseph Bradley Howard, and they are parents to Davis Bradley Howard (23), Caroline Grace Howard (20), and Mary Claire Howard (16). The grandchildren were the apple of their “Pop’s” eye and he loved them very much.
Bobby was employed with Metropolitan Life for 8 years in Jackson, TN, and later Mackenzie, TN, where he held the position of sales manager. There he was also an active member of the Rotary Club. In 1980, he and his family moved to Bartlett, TN, where he began working for Motorola, Inc., as a sales manager where he was award numerous honors for Outstanding Salesmanship.
Bobby’s favorite past time was cheering on his grandchildren in whatever sport or activity in which they were involved. He loved to watch basketball, especially while eating hot wings with his grandson, Davis. He also took great pride in Caroline’s soccer achievements and excellent grades at the University of Memphis. Pop also never tired of hearing his youngest granddaughter, Mary Claire, sing at numerous venues and perform in the musical theater.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Twana Hammock Davis, his daughter, Jennifer Davis Howard (Joseph Bradley Howard), 3 grandchildren, (Davis, Caroline, and Mary Claire), a sister, Belinda Moss (Franklin, TN), and his beloved nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Pop also leaves behind his devoted pup, Peaches, who was his constant companion and shopping buddy.
Bobby was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Bartlett, which is located at 3755 N. Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN, 38133, where all funeral services will be held. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30pm on Friday, March 6, and on Saturday, March 7, there will be a visitation from 9:00-10:00am and the funeral service will begin at 10:00AM. Burial will immediately follow the service at Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN which is located directly across the street from the church, and he will be laid to rest next to his beloved Matt.
