BILL S. PRICE, of Memphis, died Friday, July 27. Born December 21, 1919, in Marston, Missouri, he was the youngest child of Jesse and Eva Price. After graduating from Humes High School, he worked for the Memphis Police Dept., but left to join the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II, based in St. Louis and Hawaii. After the war, he returned to the Memphis Police Dept., retiring as Chief of Police after 33 years of service. He later worked for the Memphis/ Arkansas/Tennessee Council of Governments and the Regional Organized Crime Information Center. He was a graduate of the Memphis Police Academy and the FBI National Academy in Washington D. C. Bill was a loyal and active member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served on various boards, and was a charter member of Love Unlimited, assisting St. Jude patients. He was a long-time member of the Toothpick Club, Gray Hatchie Hunting Club, served on the review board for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and was president of the TN/MS Sheriffs’ and Peace Officers Association. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Christine Price, sisters Jessie Ham and Lena Price, and son-in-law Alan Kornblueh. He is survived by his children, Sherry Meeks and husband Bobby of Dallas, Texas, and Chris Price and wife Anita of Memphis. He also leaves two grandchildren, Lauren Schorr and husband Mike of Memphis, and Claire Price of Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 29 from 5-8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, with the funeral service on Monday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 3981 Macon Road.
