Beverly June Cotham Carman died peacefully on May 1, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 17, 1940 in Union City, Tennessee. The only child of Ernest & Evelyn Cotham, she grew up in their family business, Cotham’s Flower Shop, and graduated from Union City High School in 1958. She married Howard Smith Carman in June, 1958 and they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where they made their home, raised their children, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
In 1971, Beverly went to work for Dr. Kenneth R. Carruth’s pediatric dental practice, and in 1978 she began her career at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in the Office of Medical Records. In 1981, she became the administrative secretary for Dr. Morris Robbins, Clinical Dean, and assistant to Dr. Bill Slagle, Dean of the UT College of Dentistry. She retired in 2000 to care for her aging mother.
Beverly was an active member of Grace Evangelical Church and enjoyed being a part of the Bloodworth Sunday school class, serving on the Hospitality Committee and rocking babies in the nursery.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents Ernest Floyd Cotham and Evelyn Cotham. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Howard Smith Carman, her son Howard S. Carman, Jr. (Karen), her daughter Sheri Hogue (Dave), grandsons Michael Hogue (Whitney), William Hogue (Carlee), and 8 great-grandchildren Oliver, Sullivan, Scarlett, Jaxon, Eli, Samantha, Oaklee and Callaway.
A service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 with visitation at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon at Grace Evangelical Church, 9750 Wolf River Blvd., Germantown, Tennessee. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Union City, Tennessee.
The family requests memorials be made to Grace Venture, the missions outreach of Grace Evangelical Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
