Benny E. Welch, 79, of Memphis, TN, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Pontotoc, MS on July 29, 1935 and graduated from Yacona High School in Oxford, MS. He served in both the Air Force and Army Reserves and was a volunteer Shelby County Deputy Sheriff. He retired from the Kellogg’s Company after 32 years of service. Upon retirement, he became involved in several successful business ventures including Murray Guard. Mr. Welch was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hubert and Euretta Hinton Welch and his brother Hinton Welch. Mr. Welch is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary B. Welch; two sisters, Jeanette James of Oxford, MS and Monte Lambert of Lakeland, FL; one nephew, Terry (Teresa) James; one niece, Carol (Dan) Briggs; one great niece, Tracy (Mark) Gossitt; three great nephews Forrest (Laura), Jacob (Jenny), and Nathan (Cassidy) Briggs; and three great-great nieces Jaden Green and Sara Marie and Emily Briggs; two "adopted" children Eric Baertels and Dionne Hence; sister-in-law, Martha Bailey; and good friend, Rachel Ashmore. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2nd starting at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. both at First Assembly of God Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN 38018. Graveside service and Burial will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh-LaGrange Road
