Barbara Jean Owens, known as BJ (87) of Memphis, TN went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2023. Although born in Manhattan, NY, Barbara Jean’s family settled in Memphis where she became a 1954 graduate of Memphis Tech High School, and continued on through her life to be known for her vibrant and colorful personality.
She was preceded in death by her mother Rubie D. Howard, her brother Robert O. Howard, Sr., and her husband Vernon Owens. She is survived by her three children; a son Mike Owens (Cathy) of Tulsa, OK, daughter Lisa Ostrom (Kenny) of Memphis, TN, and daughter Gina Dalrymple of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren Angela Modlin (Keith), Katie Moreno, Brittnye Ostrom, Brent Ostrom, Demi Jo Jacques (Aaron), Kendal Kaye Dunaway (Tyler), and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family invites you to join them for a homegoing service this Saturday, June 17th at Memphis Funeral Home on 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Visitation begins at 1:00 with following service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made in the name of BJ Owens to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Baptist Reynolds Hospice Home.
