Austin "Bossie" Barnes, age 91, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Bossie was born on July 13, 1931 in Sherwood, Tennessee to the late Gracie Steele and Jessie Barnes. He grew up in East Tennessee logging trees and farming with his family. He was always there to lend a hand to help any way he could to the families.
Bossie was the owner of Austin Barnes Heating and Air that was founded in 1951. He obtained a mechanical and gas license that are one of the oldest in the city. Bossie was also an ordained minister. He performed marriages and sermons for many years.
Bossie is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Jean L. King Barnes; his children, Karen Gallagher, Garry Barnes, Carrie Miller Barnes, Mark Barnes, and Delisa Spain; his sister; Lola Hood; his 15 grandchildren; his 24 great-grandchildren; and his 7 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his seven siblings, Anna Shields, Alene Shetter, Statium Barnes, Panny Barnes, Lil Payne, Jean Burge, and Buck Barnes; his 2 grandchildren, Guy and Shalonda; and his 1 great-grand baby.
A visitation for Bossie will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home with a committal service to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38134.
