Ashton Christine Alford, 20 was taken from us on April 2, 2011 in an automobile accident. Ashton was born January 7, 1991 and was a resident of Germantown TN. Ashton graduated from St. George’s Independent School in 2009 where she produced a remarkable list of academic and civic accomplishments. She was an outstanding student, consistently achieving Head of School Honors and multiple Honor Society memberships. In addition to dedicating herself to her studies, she was passionate about helping those in need and made significant contributions to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Salvation Army, Mid-South Fair Kids Korral, Habitat for Humanity, and Focus Friends of Community Animal Shelter.
Ashton was an accomplished dancer resulting in a college scholarship at the
University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She was a sophomore pursuing a double major in dance and philosophy with plans to enter law school upon graduation. Her hard work earned her a spot on the Dean’s List at Alabama. Blessed with a beautiful smile and sweet personality, she was an enthusiastic and committed member of her college sorority, Phi Mu.
Ashton leaves her parents Steven A. Alford, Stephanie Christine and Dr. Cheston Reed, her loving sister, Anna; grandparents, Jimmy and Freda Alford; aunts and uncles, Wes and Tina Alford, Jody Alford, Gene Weaver; cousin, Wesly Alford; and godmother Mariluz Cianciolo. Ashton is preceded in death by grandparents, Mary Jean and Gene Weaver. As a kind and tender child of God, Ashton also leaves a host of friends from St. George’s, the University of Alabama, Phi Mu Sorority, and the endless others whom she has touched with her smile and personal motto of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Poplar Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church on Poplar near Perkins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be contributed in Ashton’s honor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Salvation Army.
