After an extended illness, Anita Marie Bounds, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed from life on earth and to be free with Jesus on September 26, 2022. Anita was born Anita Marie Agee on October 22, 1932, to Wade and Mary Agee in Friendship, Tennessee. She was welcomed to the family by an older brother Rondle Agee and a couple years later, they welcomed a sister Patricia Agee. The family moved to Memphis when Anita was still very young. Anita was a graduate of Treadwell High School in Memphis, Tennessee. After high school Anita completed several courses in Banking School in order to go to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Memphis.. Anita enjoyed her position with the Federal Reserve Bank and worked for a short time leaving to start a family.
Anita Marie Agee was married to Walter Theodore “Ted” Bounds on June 8, 1963. They had a relatively short courtship, only dating for eight years before they were married. The two had met on a blind date where they were introduced to each other by good friends while playing cards. Two years later, Anita and Ted welcomed a daughter Tina Renee Bounds and 18 short months later, welcomed their son, Walter Lee Bounds.
When the children were young, Anita stayed baby sat other children in order to be able to be home with Tina and Lee. As the children entered school, Anita returned to the work force with a couple of different part time jobs. Anita eventually became a Secretary and Switchboard operator for Firestone Tire &Rubber Company. When Firestone left Memphis in 1982, Anita moved on to Ray F Sharp Lumber Company where she worked for several years before moving to work for Mike Swain Wealth Advisors, a part of Raymond James. Anita worked for Mike Swain for many years as executive assistant. Anita liked working and was in no hurry to retire. She worked until 75 and retired. Anita and Ted enjoyed retirement together.
Anita was a Christian and known for her sweet and gentle spirit and her generosity to others. She was a member of the Holmes Road Church of Christ for 53 years. Forty-two of those years she taught young children and babies. After the passing of Ted Bounds in January, 2012, Anita eventually began attending Cordova Community Church with her children. Anita enjoyed many things; her hobbies included daily reading, she would read the Bible, the newspaper and magazines each day. Sewing, needle point and crochet on the creative side and spider solitaire, watching Wheel of Fortune and the Voice on the entertainment side. Anita also enjoyed going on drives in the country, traveling and spending time with her family, friends and the family dog. Always a fan of Memphis Tiger Basketball, she attended games for many years at the Mid South Coliseum and in later years she preferred to watch from home where she could remain calm and enjoy the game.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Bounds, in January 2012, her brother Rondle Agee, her sister-in-law Charlene Agee and her brother-in-law George Akers. Anita is survived by her Sister Patricia Akers, her daughter, Tina Bounds and her son, Lee Bounds all of Bartlett, Tennessee
On Saturday, October 1,2022, family and friends will celebrate the life of Anita Bounds. Services will be held at Family Funeral Home on Summer Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm with a Funeral Service following at 2:00 pm. The interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens.
