October 25, 1933 - December 5, 2024
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather
Paul L. Knowles was born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana, where his ancestors had been among the first residents of then Fort Vincennes. After high school, Paul attended West Point Military Academy and Indiana University. He became a Certified Public Accountant and worked as a CPA, Comptroller, and CFO for various companies during his career, as well as serving in the Army National Guard for many years.
Paul married his first wife, Jeanne, in 1955, raising 5 children together in Indiana and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1973, he married second wife, Wilma, adding 3 step-children to the family. All 8 children were always considered “ours” by Paul & Wilma, as were the 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren that followed. Paul & Wilma happily left the Wisconsin winters for southern California in 1980 and later made Medford their retirement home.
Paul was a steady, reliable presence in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He had many friends whose companionship he cherished. He was a good listener; unfailingly kind; a man of faith with a servant’s heart. Family always came first. He quietly helped others when in need, earning their undying gratitude and respect. He taught his children, by example, how to live with integrity, self-respect, and compassion toward others.
A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2025 at 2:00pm at Paul’s church home, Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford, Oregon 97501
