Michael Ray Hammers was born in Arcata, California on September 14, 1956 to the late Herbert and Janell Hammers, one of four children. He died after battling a long illness of more than twenty-five years on July 10, 2023. Mike was a faithful husband and is survived by his wife Danna, a loving father of two children, Brian Hammers and Lisa Willis, and a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Adaline Willis, Ella Willis, and Roman Hammers. One sister, Charlene Antley, preceded him in death. He is survived by two brothers, Jeff Hammers (Apryll), Greg Hammers (Christine), and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Mike graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1974. He married Danna on March 27, 1976 and Medford was their lifelong home.
Most of Mike’s working career was for Sherm Olsrud at Food-4-Less as an Assistant Store Manager and Store Planner. Mike had a gift for mediating and merchandising.
Mike served in Children’s Church Ministry, which included a puppet team and numerous skits for many years. He began leading Children’s Church at 1st Assembly of God at the age of fifteen. Later he served in Children’s Ministry at Bethel Church until he and his family began attending Applegate Christian Fellowship, where he continued a puppet ministry for a season.
Mike was a gifted actor and performed in the Pioneer Village Melodrama in Jacksonville for two seasons.
Mike loved the holidays and always made them special. There are many family memories of egg decorating contests, pumpkin carving, and a beautifully decorated house at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
He will be remembered fondly for his wonderful sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh, his warm smile, and always having a stash of hidden snacks.
Mike loved God and was devoted to his family. He was a man of patient endurance and joyful longsuffering. He set the bar high for trusting and accepting God’s will in all things. He will be greatly missed until we see him again.
A celebration of his life will be held at Applegate Christian Fellowship on August 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.. He has been laid to rest at Jacksonville Cemetery.
