Lorraine “Shula” Morgan was raised in Ashland OR, graduating from Ashland High School and studying at SOU. Some knew her family, the Musical Morgans, as they put on performances together throughout town. Shula had a lovely singing voice and played piano and guitar. She became a lifelong musician and performed in a number of bands, including several with her husband, Robert Franklin Smith. Together, they were two of the founding members of the Southern Oregon Songwriters Association. Shula made her living as a music teacher, performer, and songwriter for many years, writing over 100 songs. In 2020, Shula became Co-Director of Music at Unity Church of Medford, where she was an active member until her tragic passing. She is survived by her son, Chase Morgan, and brothers, Paul and Daniel Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rex W. and Darlene Morgan, siblings Rex A. and Diana, as well as her husband. Her loss will be especially felt by her Unity community, musical colleagues from SOSA, and special friend Robert Aros. Anyone wishing to help Chase Morgan during this very difficult time can post a check to Unity Church of Medford, 540 N. Holly St., Medford OR, 97501 in Chase’s name. Lorraine/Shula will be missed by all who knew her.
