Earl Eugene McGinty was born in Murdock, Minnesota on November 21, 1927. He passed away on May 22, 2024 in Medford, Oregon. His daughter Barbara and Granddaughter Dina were with him when he left this world while holding his hands.
He was married for 67 years to Florene McGinty who passed away on December 16, 2023 in Medford Oregon.
He served in the United States Navy from November 1945 to October 1947. He later served again in June 1951 to July 1955. He was a Merchant Marine, active in the Korean War.
He was an engineer on the Naval Ship USS Sperry. After his heroic service he was employed by Boeing Airplane Company as an engineer from 1955 to 1969. From 1969 until retirement he worked at the Seattle First National Bank, managing the 50 story Bank building in Seattle, Washington as an engineer operating boilers, air conditioning, welding and plumbing.
He loved to travel often to locations all over the USA. He especially loved touring Ireland, Italy, and Greece. Some of these trips were with his wife and daughter. He attended the USS Sperry ship reunion each year at different locations in the US. Earl loved to drive and loved to drive fast. If he was a passenger he would always say “Pedal to the Metal”.
Earl cherished his entire family. He is survived by daughter Barbara Merlino Henry, daughter-in-law Tammy Cocco, grandchildren Dina Potter, Annette Merlino, Dan Cocco Jr., Tracy Hill and husband Jesse Hill, Bob Cocco and wife Monique Brooks Cocco, great-grandchildren Max Potter, Gage Potter, Anthony “AJ” Merlino, Lanai Merlino, Jim Hill, Sam Hill, Haley Cocco and Jason Martinez. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
