LYON, William "Bill" M., 76, of Ashland, Va., passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, after a courageous battle with multiple medical challenges. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey M. Lyon, of Richmond, Va. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Nancy Hall Lyon. He is also survived by two cherished daughters, Courtney L. Roberts (Dan), and Heather L. Hemstreet (Mark). He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Aidan, Will, Parker and Emmeline. He is also survived by a sister, Ann L. Massey (Art); and niece, Amber Massey. Bill helped shape the lives of many children in Henrico County Public School System, as he was a dedicated educator. He began teaching at Tuckahoe Middle School, then became an assistant principal at Longan Elementary School. Following that, he was the principal of Glen Allen Elementary School, Chamberlayne Elementary and Johnson Elementary. He oversaw the opening of the new Glen Allen Elementary School, as the old Glen Allen was converted into the Cultural Arts Center. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively, visiting every state in the union, with the exception of Hawaii. Bill and Nancy decided not to take on the challenge of pulling their travel trailer across the Pacific Ocean! The family would like to extend many thanks to the caring staff of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center for their excellent care. According to his wishes, Bill will be cremated and services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Woody Funeral Home-Atlee. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to one of his favorite places, Huntington Beach State Park, 16148 Ocean Highway, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina 29576.
