Walter Lee Thompson, 93, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away on February 4, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Katherine Corley Thompson; three children, Ronald Thompson (Nancy), Kent Thompson (Terri), Gale Smith (Chip); seven grandchildren, Dan, Ross and Andrew Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Jill Switzer, Chesley Filipiak, Cort Smith; three great-grandchildren, Beth and Jenna Thompson, Jude Thompson. Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during WWII. He retired from Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company after 42 years of service. He served as deacon and various other positions in several churches, and was currently a member of Shalom Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Chamberlayne Baptist Church and Olney Baptist Church in Maryland. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 6, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7 at 1 p.m. at Shalom Baptist Church, 6395 Mechanicsville Trpk., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.
