Robert Aubrey Gilliam

Gilliam, R. Aubrey, 79, of Mechanicsville, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary N. Gilliam; daughters, Stephanie A. Gilliam, Cheryl L. Strong and her husband, Webb H. Strong, and Etta G. Billips and her husband, Larry Billips, daughter-in-law, Regina Gilliam; his beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel W. Strong, Luke W. Strong, Amanda M. Billips, Danielle B. Billips, Jalyn Gilliam, and Joshua Gilliam; as well as many loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, John A. Gilliam, and his granddaughter, Amber Billips.
Aubrey worked at Wheat First Securities as a programmer and Senior Vice President of the Data Center until he retired in 1999. Aubrey was an avid gardener who could be found most days working in his gardens; in recent years, he held an annual plant sale earning him the moniker of the Studley Plant Man. He found great joy in imparting his horticultural knowledge and helping people find the right plants for their yards. He was a dedicated member of the Studley Ruritan Club, an enthusiastic hunter, and long-time little league baseball coach.
On Friday October 6th, visitation will be held from 1 – 2 pm with a memorial service beginning at 2pm at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home.
