In loving memory and with heavy hearts, we gather to pay our respects to the cherished memory of Miriam "Teeny" Lukhard Vaughan. She peacefully went home to be with her lord on December 19, 2023, at the age of 90. Born on November 4, 1933, in Richmond, Virginia.
She was the daughter of the late Herman Leslie Lukhard and Miriam Abbott Lukhard. Miriam now rests in eternal peace alongside her adored husband Kenneth Ashton Vaughan, her daughter Robin Vaughan Minich, and her brothers Herman L. Lukhard, Jr. and Rawley "Dee" Lukhard.
Miriam's life was a testament to the values and traditions that sustain us in times of joy and sorrow. She embodied a spirit of humility, grace, and devotion that endeared her to all who knew her. Miriam was a devoted mother to her sons David Vaughan (Sharlyn) and Barry Vaughan of Old Church, Virginia. Her love and guidance shaped their lives and made them the men they are today. Miriam was a cherished and treasured grandmother to Lauren Eggleston King (Jeff), William Chase Vaughan, Courtney Vaughan, Jessica Vaughan Bruce (Daniel), Lydia Minich Brooks (Chad), Miriam Minich, and Kenneth Ashton Vaughan, II (Kristie). Her twelve great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Miriam is also survived by her son-in-law Russell Minich, sister-in-law Helen Lukhard, sister-in-law Nancy Vaughan , as well as numerous Abbott, Lukhard, and Vaughan nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Miriam's devotion extended to her career, where she found purpose and fulfillment. She was a resolute employee at Owens & Minor, where she applied her skills and commitment to making a positive impact. Additionally, Miriam humbly served as a preschool teacher at Hanover Evangelical Friends Church, nurturing young minds and instilling in them the values of kindness and love.
Her faith was an integral part of Miriam's life, and she found solace and strength in her unwavering devotion. She was an active member of Battery Park Christian Church, where she found community, support, and guidance in her spiritual journey. Miriam's Sundays were dedicated to teaching Sunday School and raising her voice in praise as a valued member of the choir.
Miriam found joy in simple pleasures and cherished the moments spent engaging in her favorite hobbies. She was an active member of the Pamunkey Woman's Club, where she connected with like-minded individuals and made lifelong friendships.
A visitation to honor and remember Miriam's life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2023, from 4pm – 7pm at Woody Funeral Home, located at 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A solemn graveside service will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2023, at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 3:00pm, situated at 4000 Pilots Ln, Richmond, VA 23222. A celebration of life will follow at 4 pm to be held at Battery Park Christian Church, located at 4201 Brook Rd, Richmond,VA.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Miriam's memory to Battery Park Christian Church and the American Cancer Society. These charitable acts reflect her deep love for her faith and her dedication to supporting causes close to her heart.
Miriam "Teeny" Vaughan's presence will be deeply missed, and her memories will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and commitment to family and community serve as a lasting inspiration to us all.
