Benjamin Anthony Alston

Benjamin Anthony Alston, lovingly known to his family as “Anthony”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023 in Mechanicsville, Virginia at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Alston Jr. and his mother, Claudette Miles Alston. Anthony was joined in marriage to his wife Carolyn in 1991 and they later welcomed their daughter Tori in 1994 and son Miles in 2002. Anthony was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was always a pillar of strength for his family and instilled in his children “family first”. This was exhibited by his dedication to reach out to his family, friends, and especially his elders often through regular phone calls, texts and visits. He was known for keeping a smile on everyone’s face. In 1976, Anthony began his career as a patrolman with the Richmond City Police Department, became a detective in 1994 and later retired from RPD in 2004. After retirement, he worked part-time for Peoples Bank (formerly Consolidated Bank & Trust) to stay active. Through both of these professions, he was able to meet many people and establish meaningful friendships. Anthony was a loyal friend and mentor and was always there to provide a listening ear and offer his advice when asked. Everyone who knew Anthony knew how much he loved cars, cooking (especially grilling), and music. He enjoyed mixing music and creating playlists to share with others. He had a special interest in cars, especially his 1999 Mustang Cobra. Anthony was also known to be an avid Raiders fan and enjoyed watching football with his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, L. Carolyn Washington-Alston; children, Tori Alston (Austin) and Miles Alston; and sister, Crystal Alston-Bayton and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, dedicated in-laws, and life-long friends whom he loved. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A brief visitation will be held again on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, at Woody Funeral Home where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm.
