MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, at First United Methodist Church, 521 W. Pipeline Rd., Hurst, TX directed by Cole Funeral Home, 1113 W. Fifth St, McGregor, TX., with Dr. Michael McKee, Rev Henry Radde and Rev. Randy Wild officiating. Following the service, there will be a time of visitation in the Fellowship Hall.
MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22nd at Crawford United Methodist Church, 375 W. 6th St., Crawford, TX directed by Cole Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Radde, Rev. Jack Riley and Rev. Rankin Koch officiating. Following the service, the family will remain for a time of visitation. Inurnment will be in Crawford Cemetery in Crawford, TX.
Sidney was born on July 14, 1924 in Crawford, TX to the late Clyde and Ninnie Lou Roberts. He was the youngest of nine children. Graduating from Crawford HS in 1941, Sidney attended Southwestern University, Baylor University and Texas Wesleyan University receiving his B.A. in 1950. He received his M.Th. from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1953. Texas Wesleyan awarded him an Honorary D.D. in 1968 and named him Distinguished Alumnus in 1977.
Sidney married the former Bobbie M. England of Crawford on November 28, 1945, in Crawford, Texas. They had two children, Pamela K. and Ren H.
Sidney was a United Methodist minister for over sixty years; serving churches in Moshiem, Cayote, Flat, Coon Creek, Morgan, Kopperl, Cleburne (St Paul’s), Grandview, Euless, Hamilton, Ennis (First), Corsicana (First), and Hurst (First). He also served as Administrative Assistant to Bishop for 7 years, District Superintendent for Fort Worth East and Fort Worth West districts for 5 years each, and as Conference Director of Finance and Administration for 6 years.
During his ministry, Sidney served on numerous boards and councils, including, Harris Methodist HEB and The Methodist Home in Waco. He also served 20+ years as Trustee for Texas Methodist Foundation and Texas Wesleyan University.
Sidney was a loving, generous, and compassionate man. He was a man of great faith who lived his faith each and every day by his love to his family and his service to God.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents and his eight siblings.
SURVIVORS: Wife of 65 years, Bobbie; two children, Pam, and Ren and wife, Joy; four grandchildren, James and wife, Courtney, Dustin, Kelly, and Sandra; seven great-grandchildren, Daniel, KayLyn, Dakota, Taylor, Ryan, Sydney and Piper; five nephews and nieces, and numerous great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.
