T.O. Luna of McGregor passed away in amazingly good health, early Monday morning, April 9, 2012, at the age of 86. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at College Avenue Baptist Church, 201 South Monroe St., McGregor, Texas 76657 with Reverend David Thompson and Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Luna was born June 13, 1925, in Moffat, Texas, the son of the late Thomas Odis and Margaret Eliza (Dodson) Luna. He began his education at The Grove and later moved to the South Bosque area where he was reared and attended school. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Kasaan Bay as a signalman 3/C until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 121 in Waco, Texas.
T.O. was an active member of College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor where he taught Sunday School for many years and was instrumental in the building of the fellowship hall. On July 29, 1950, he married Frieda Joyce McLaughlin in McGregor. After thirty-nine years of marriage, she preceded him in death April 26, 1990. On March 30, 1996, he married Leona Hueske Neff in McGregor. For over thirty years he was employed by General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco until his 1985 retirement. Several years later, McGregor ISD employed him in their facilities services division until 1990 when he retired. Throughout his life, T.O. enjoyed many outdoor activities. He was an avid gardener, hunter and coon hunter. He also enjoyed camping and fishing.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Joe Duncan, Edison Duncan; two sisters, Athalene Hoy and Alta Faye Duncan.
Survivors include his wife Leona Luna; two daughters, Bonnie Luna, Sherri Luna both of San Antonio; a sister, Dorothy Walter and husband Cecil of McGregor; a sister-in-law, Sibyl “Sue” Roe of McGregor; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clayton and Jean Hueske of Waco as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
Active casketbearers will be Barton Johnson, Kevin Lillard, Michael Olson, Darrell Roe, Ray Walter and Tommy Walter. Honorary casketbearers will be Robert Erlanson, John Humphries, Larry Johnson, Gary Kimbrough, Bill Oswald and Steve Pomerenke.
