.Mildred Juanita Shirley, 91, passed peacefully on March 10, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Funeral service will be at 10 AM Monday, March 13, at Cole Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday, March 12, at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Gholson Cemetery in Gholson, Texas.
Mildred was born on March 21, 1925 to Emory Lee and Nettie Mae Lightfoot. She attended Gholson Schools as well as Four-C Business College. She held various jobs before her 35 year career at General Tire. Mildred was the first woman to hold a "mans job" in the bead department at the Waco Texas plant and was an active member in the Moody Church of Christ. After retirement Mildred worked at Mars Candies and dedicated her life to her family.
Mildred married Ray Shirley on February 14, 1973. They enjoyed boating and fishing together with their family for many years. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking for large family gatherings and reunions.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray Shirley, her parents Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Lightfoot, brothers Aubrey, Lester, Marion, and Clayton Lightfoot and sister Leta Faye Marsh.
Mildred is survived by her brothers Eugene and Joe Lightfoot and Joe's wife Pattie, sisters Louise Wehrmann, Audrey Cook and Diane Looper and Diane's husband Don. She is further survived by sons Jim Batey and Jim's wife Elaine, Ray Shirley Jr. and Ray's wife Jo, and Roy Shirley and his wife Chaquita and a daughter Myra Adams and her husband David as well as 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moody Church of Christ.
