Mike graduated from McGregor High School in 1993. He married the love of his youth, Lori Olvera on September 14, 1996. They had three children, Natalie, Ezra, and Zion Aviles.
Mike was the son of a pastor and was raised in church, where he learned music at a very young age. He was a multi-talented musician who played piano, bass, and guitar. He was a member of Christian City Band for 18 years. Although he loved music, his true passion was sharing the word of God.
Mike was an active member of The Bethlehem Christian Church where he served as a youth pastor for ten years. He also served as a Sunday school minister and later became the associate pastor. Many came to know Christ through his ministry.
Although Mike was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, in August 2018, it didn’t keep him from doing the things that were important to him, such as attending his kids’ school events, church services, or continuing to minister behind the pulpit. Mike's priorities were Christ first, then his family. Even in the hardest moments of his battle, he found strength to give God praise and he never gave up. He always persevered.
