Mary Frances (Byford) Spoonts, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor, with Pastor Terry Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Harris Creek Cemetery. An informal visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Spoonts was born on March 7, 1925 in McGregor, Texas to the late William Sherley Byford and Annie Mary (Inmon) Byford. She attended schools in Waco, Comanche Springs, and graduated from McGregor High School in 1942, where she was a cheerleader. Mary worked as a telephone operator, with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, for five and a half years. She met the love of her life, Paul R.A. Spoonts, Jr. at Spoonts Drug store. They married on October 15, 1947 and enjoyed 58 years together, before Paul’s passing in 2005. They were blessed with three children, Paul R.A. (Skip) Spoonts, III, Scott Alan Spoonts, and Mary Suzanne Spoonts Bohne. Paul, a pharmacist, and Mary co-owned and operated City Rexall Drug in McGregor for 28 years. Following retirement, they were the owners of Main Street Gallery for six years. Mary also enjoyed being a food demonstrator, in area grocery stores. Mary lived her life serving her Lord as a pre-school Sunday School teacher for over 34 years as well as singing in the choir. In recent years, she attended church services at Westview Manor Nursing Home.
Mary’s husband, parents, siblings, and a nephew preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Paul R.A. (Skip) Spoonts, III and wife, Barbara, Scott Spoonts and wife, Karen; daughter, Suzanne Spoonts Bohne and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Jessica Vinson and husband, Brad, Amber Reue and husband, James, Jarod Johnson and fiancé, Cori, Matthew Johnson and wife, Carragh, Aaron Spoonts, Colby Johnson and wife, Kelli, Mary Ashleigh Huddleston and husband, Travis; great grandchildren, Isabel, Leland, and Mirabel Vinson, Cade and Camille Reue, Canyon, Bryer, Weston Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
