Lula Irene Henson Compton of Crawford died Saturday night, September 11, 2010, at the age of 81. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. A.C. Painter officiating. Interment will follow in Compton Cemetery near Crawford. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Compton was born June 28, 1929, in Barksdale, Texas, the daughter of the late Lum and Thelma Compton. In 1947, she married W. L. Henson for twenty-five years. That marriage was blessed with four children. He preceded her in death in 1988. On October 12, 1985, she married Jack Compton in Valley Mills, Texas. After fifteen years of marriage, he preceded her in death January 24, 2000. In 1974 she moved to Crawford from Gatesville. She attended Harmony Baptist Church in Gatesville where she loved all the people, especially her “pew buddies”. She enjoyed working in the yard and making quilts. Through the years, each family member received one of her handmade quilts which they will cherish for years to come. She had a Pomeranian named Elvis who she adored. In her later years, he gave her much love and company. That love and company was shared by both.
Also preceding her in death were a son, William Lelan Henson; two brothers, Otis Allen Coalson and George William Coalson.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Lynn Newton of Duncanville, Lelan Fay Alldredge of Colleyville, Edna Irene Weaver of Crawford; eight grandchildren, Benja Stanford, Samantha Terrell, Staci Engel, Carri Alldredge, Blake Alldredge, Faith Newton, Hope Newton, Matthew Newton and four great grandchildren.
