Katherine Baker of McGregor died Sunday night, January 30, 2011, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Jon Mark Smith and Pat Richardson officiating. Following the interment in McGregor Cemetery, a luncheon will be held at the Main Place, 315 South Main Street, McGregor. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Baker was born March 30, 1917, in Hearn, Texas, the daughter of the late John and Mable (Harper) Montgomery. She was a 1935 graduate of McGregor High School and later attended business college in Dallas. For forty years she was a business manager for McLennan County Co-op in McGregor. At her retirement, she was awarded the Distinguished Accounting Award in recognition of her years of faithful service to rural electrification from the Texas Electric Accounting Association. On August 20, 1940, she married Orvis Kyle Baker in Waco. After forty-eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death September 26, 1988. As long as her health permitted, she was an active member of the Sixth and Adams Church of Christ. Katherine was actively involved in the McGregor community. She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hat Society, McGregor Garden Club and was an avid bridge player belonging to various bridge clubs. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening as her yard was selected several time as “Yard of the Month”.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Otis Montgomery, Buster Montgomery; two sisters, Jewel Montgomery Duke, Louise Montgomery Willingham.
Survivors include a son, Kyle Baker and wife Linda of Austin; grandsons, Christopher Kyle Baker and
wife Nancy, great granddaughter, Kaylin Katherine Baker and great grandson, Brayden Kyle Baker; Dr. Brett William Baker and wife Sarah and great granddaughter Kendall Caris Baker.
