Juanita M. Jay, mother of McGregor resident, Cheryl Pomerenke, died Wednesday morning, March 16, 2011, at the age of 96. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth, Street, McGregor with Pat Richardson officiating. Private inurnment will be in Rosemound Cemetery in Waco. At the request of the family, there will not be any visitation.
Mrs. Jay was born September 5, 1914, in Hillsboro, Texas, the daughter of the late Jim Harrison and Mary Elizabeth (Bryan) Malone where she attended school. On July 27, 1939, she married Alton Beverly Jay in Waco. After sixty-two years of marriage, he preceded her in death February4, 2002.
Much of her life was spent in the food service industry as a waitress. She was employed by Flight Line Snack Bar at James Connally AFB in Waco from 1960 to 1966. From 1975 until her retirement in 1997, she and her husband Alton, managed the Parrot Plaza Apartments in Waco. She enjoyed dolls and was a member of the Central Texas Doll Club in Waco and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, four sisters, a step-granddaughter and her beloved tow dogs, Missy and Tinker.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Pomerenke and husband Steve of McGregor; three grandchildren, Tammy Charlson Fleming of Durham New Hampshire, Tyson Charlson of Waco, Mindy Pomerenke of Boynton Beach, Florida; a great granddaughter, Olivia Fleming of Durham, New Hampshire; a step-son, Jimmy Jay and his family of Abilene.
