Deborah Ann “Debbie” Mathews of Eddy died Friday afternoon, January 14, 2011, at the age of 55. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. Greg Spears officiating. Interment will follow in Bruceville-Moore Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mathews was born January 31, 1955, in Cameron, Texas the daughter of the late Lonnie Boyd and Ruby Lee (Hirt) Stephens. She was reared in Rockdale and was a 1973 graduate of Rockdale High School where she participated in 4-H and was a member of the Hi-Li Club. She received her nursing degree from Temple Junior College. On August 11, 1979, she married Jimmie Mathews in Rockdale, Texas. In 1982, she moved to Eddy from Temple where she and Jimmie have made their home.
Mrs. Mathews retired from Scott and White Hospital after devoting thirty-four and a half years of service in the OB/GYN Department as a technician. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cake decorating of which she furnished cakes for special occasions at work. She also enjoyed sewing and was a Camp Fire leader for nine years.
Survivors include her loving husband, Jimmie; two daughters, Stephanie Hoke and husband Chris of Eddy, Alicia Mathews of McGregor; a step-son, Randy Mathews and wife Diana of Valley Mills; a brother, Leroy Stephens and Susie Simpson of Rockdale; two sisters, Patsy Seals and husband Pearl of Iowa, Peggy Ray and husband Doug of Ennis; three grandchildren, Austin Mathews, Trey Hoke, Kaitlynn Hoke and numerous nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers will be B.J. Brown, Josh DeLeon, Steve Fogle, Bill Luckey,Justin Ray and Glen Schneider.
