Billie Tubbs of Osage passed away early Monday morning, June 18, 2012, at the age of 89 to join C.A. in Heaven. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, 375 West Sixth Street, Crawford, Texas with the Reverend Rebecca Hull officiating. Private inurnment will be in Crawford Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor.
Mrs. Tubbs was born July 8, 1922, in Willow, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William Herbert and Annie Leeola (Baker) Barnard where she began her education through the eighth grade. Billie and her mother “Aunt Sis” moved to the farm in Greer County, Oklahoma to live with Billie’s maternal grandmother, Katy Gus Connally Baker where she graduated as Valedictorian of her 1940 graduating class of Lake Creek High School. She later attended business college in Oklahoma City. On December 27, 1944, she married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Clinton Albert Tubbs, Jr. from Osage. C.A., as he was affectionately referred to, worked on the Alaskan highway during World War II. They resided in Houston and Corpus Christi. When they retired in 1979, they returned to the family farm in Osage and built a home overlooking Bluff Creek. C.A.’s grandparents, Tom and Cassie (Kittie) Ann Simpson purchased the farm around 1895.
Billie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crawford where she was active in many phases of the church. Billie was active in the Coryell Historical County Commission and Museum. She was a member of the Texas Historical Commission. Billie always had a love for books and record keeping. She was manager of ADA Oil Company Credit Union in Houston for many years.
Survivors include Billie’s half brother, Joel Harvey Barnard and wife Betty of San Marcos and their family Bradley Barnard and wife Diane of Staples, Libby Tighe of Austin, Jamie Barnard of Wimberley; a half brother, John Mark Barnard and wife Janis of Houston and their family Sara Barnard of Dallas, John David Barnard and wife Amanda of Bellville, Johanna Pule and husband Max of Houston, Williamd Andrew Barnard and wife Falon of Houston; a sister-in-law, Tommie Beth Strickland, and her daughter Leslie Fink and husband Kyle of O Fallon , Illinois and several other nieces and nephews.
