William "Bill" Worthington Ivey, Sr., age 86 passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was born on the family farm, "The Ivey Grist Mill" in Parrott, Georgia on January 9, 1938 to the late Frank and Margaret Ivey. Bill was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Evelyn Eckert Ivey and his aunt / "sister" Carolyn DuPont. He graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1956 and then attended Georgia State University, where he played baseball and earned his Bachelor's degree in business administration. Bill married Beverly in December 1963 and was married until her death in July 2001. He started his career in 1963 with Life Insurance Company of Georgia, where he continued until his retirement. He served in the US Army for 6 years, being activated state-side during the Vietnam War. He continued playing baseball for Fort McPherson, coaching youth athletics, as well as playing fast-pitch softball with Charlie's Trading Post. Bill owned Atlanta Basketball Officials Association for over 30 years. He also worked with his son for 22 years at All Star Trophy. He was very active with his children and grandchildren during their athletic careers and helped to build the "Ivey Field of Dreams" which was a field where many local youth in McDonough utilized for practice. Bill was an avid Gator fan and was a dedicated season ticket holder for 51 years. He loved road trips, family, Sunday School, and Bible study. Later in life he spent time doing jigsaw and sudoku puzzle, while still working in the trophy shop until the day before his death. Later in life, Bill married Alice Fran Beck for 19 years. He is survived by his Children: Amber Ivey Vannavong of McDonough, William "Buddy" (Kim) Worthington Ivey, Jr. of McDonough, and foster daughter Davanh (Tuie) Voravong of Fayetteville; Grandchildren: Justin (Catie) Ivey, Matthew (Caroline) Ivey, Keary Vannavong, Kylie Vannavong, Danny Voravong, Nicholas Voravong. He is also survived by his three Great Grandchildren: William, James and Winnie Ivey. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on May 11, 2024 at Salem Baptist Church on Highway 155 North in McDonough. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Cemetery in Fayetteville, Georgia.
